Trudi Lacey has spent her entire career in basketball, from playing with the boys on the playgrounds in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the ACC, to USA Basketball and to the WNBA. The vision of The Lacey Foundation is to reach people all over the world and instill confidence, life long fitness and advocate for social change to inspire a ll to have a life well lived. Lacey played collegiately at NC State University for the late Hall of Fame Coach, Kay Yow. She was an All-American, four-time ALL-ACC player and was named to the top 50 All Legend ACC team in 2007. Lacey is the first African American women to earn a full four year basketball scholarship at NC State University! Lacey coached Division I women’s basketball at Francis Marion University, University of South Florida, University of Maryland and she was a graduate assistant at NC State University earning a Master’s Degree in Sports Management. Lacey also coached for two seasons at Queens University of Charlotte from 2009 – 2010.
Lacey is currently the Director of Athletics at Johnson & Wales University., Charlotte camps. She is also the chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force and a member of the Charlotte Racial Justice Consortium.
Lacey directed training camps and international competition including working with 1996 and 2000 Women’s Gold Medal Basketball teams for the Atlanta and Sydney Olympics.
Lacey has served as Coach and General Manager for two WNBA teams, the Charlotte Sting and the Washington Mystics.
Lacey is also the past President of Lacey & Company, a coaching and leadership development firm for highly competitive individuals and teams who desire to reach their optimal level of performance especially under pressure.

Lacey has always had a love and passion for sports, especially the game of basketball, but her purpose is to inspire people to “better their best, 2 % better." The daily disciple of self betterment, inspiring others and acceptance for all. Her passion is teaching the life skills she has learned through sports to help others live a life of purpose and positivity. "Sports has always been a safe place for me where I felt valued, encouraged and a part of a goal bigger than myself. I want to pass those lessons on to others." The Lacey Foundation for Sports Leadership, Inc mission is to teach each individual to embrace their inner power, become transformative leaders through sports and to hold a space for all humanity to be celebrated. This is the power of transformation trough sports. It TRULY is Bigger than the Game!
